Substance abuse counseling helps you understand and break patterns of drug or alcohol use that are hurting your life and relationships. Our Biblical Substance Abuse Counseling at Glory Deliverance in Columbia, SC, is Scripture-centered and judgment-free, and you don’t need to call yourself an addict to start. We offer one-on-one and family sessions in person or online, for $150 per session.
Every session is grounded in God's Word, not generic self-help.
A private space to be honest about anger without judgment.
Counseling shaped around your triggers, relationships & goals.
Biblical truth for everyday life to help through tough time.
Most people don’t plan on drinking or using becoming a problem. It usually starts small, as a way to relax, cope, or fit in. Then, slowly, it takes up more space than you ever meant to give it.
Substance abuse counseling gives you a safe place to look at that honestly, without shame. Together, we explore what’s driving the habit, what it’s costing you, and what Scripture says about real freedom. And because addiction rarely affects just one person, we welcome family members too.
Matthew 18:20 (KJV)
Online addiction counseling lets you meet by secure video from home. That privacy matters, especially when you’re not ready for anyone to see you walk into a counseling session.

You don’t have to hit rock bottom to ask for help. In fact, substance abuse counseling often helps most before things get worse. These signs suggest it may be time to talk with someone:
You also don’t need a substance use disorder diagnosis to start. We don’t diagnose, but counseling can help you take an honest look at your patterns and decide on next steps.
Important safety note: stopping alcohol or certain drugs suddenly can be dangerous. If you
Your generous support helps Glory Deliverance Bible Counseling continue providing Scripture-centered counseling and sharing biblical encouragement with individuals, couples, and families.
Addiction counseling at Glory Deliverance looks at more than the substance itself. Often, drinking or using is an answer to a deeper question, like how to numb pain, quiet anxiety, or escape loneliness. So we look at the whole picture.
Sessions usually focus on a few key areas:
Change rarely happens overnight. Still, with steady support and God’s strength, it does happen.
Alcohol counseling helps you understand why you drink, what it’s costing you, and how to change course. It’s for anyone who senses that alcohol has more control than it should.
Whether it’s prescription pills, marijuana, or other drugs, individual counseling for addiction gives you private, one-on-one space to face it honestly.
For many people, substance use started as a way to numb old wounds. If past hurt is part of your story, our trauma counseling can help as well.
Maybe you’re searching for counseling for an alcoholic spouse, or a husband or wife who uses drugs. Addiction strains trust in a marriage. Counseling helps you set healthy boundaries, and marital counseling can support you both as healing begins.
Grounded in Scripture, Led by Experience
Anger Management Counseling at Glory Deliverance is led within a Biblical Counseling framework developed by founder Dr. Regina Maholmes — holding a Master’s degree in Counseling and Human Development, a Doctorate in Divinity, and a PhD in Biblical Counseling, with roots in ministry since 2007. Every session brings Scripture into real conversations about anger issues, triggers, self-control, forgiveness, and relationships.
Your first session starts with prayer and a conversation, not a lecture. Your counselor listens, asks about your drug or alcohol use and how it affects your life, and learns what you hope to change.
From there, sessions explore your triggers, patterns, and relationships, and how Scripture speaks to each one. Between sessions, you may get a practical step, such as a plan for a high-risk evening or a passage to read when cravings hit. Sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes.
Working Alongside Medical Care, Treatment, and Support Groups
Biblical substance abuse counseling is a ministry of care, not a medical or clinical treatment program. We don’t provide detox, medication, or evidence-based clinical treatment for substance use disorder. However, many people use counseling alongside those services.
If you’re already in a treatment program, our sessions can support your treatment plans spiritually. Support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Celebrate Recovery can also give you community between sessions. And because addiction often affects your mental health, please keep your doctor involved if you’re also facing depression or anxiety.
Substance abuse counseling at Glory Deliverance is $150 per session. Recovery doesn’t follow a fixed timeline, so there’s no required number of sessions. Contact us to ask about scheduling and current availability.

Biblical Spiritual Counseling is counseling grounded in Scripture that addresses spiritual questions, difficult circumstances, emotional concerns, relationships, decisions, faith, purpose, and direction.
No. You don’t need a label or a diagnosis to begin. If drinking or using is causing problems, or you simply want to understand your habits better, counseling can help. Many people start precisely because they’re unsure whether their use has become a problem.
Not always. Stopping alcohol or certain drugs suddenly can cause dangerous withdrawal. If you drink heavily or use daily, talk with a doctor about medically supervised detox first. Counseling can then support you spiritually as you move forward.
Start by caring for yourself, too. Learn about addiction, speak honestly without shaming, and set clear boundaries. Families who want to support their loved one often benefit from counseling of their own. That’s true even if the person using isn’t ready for help yet.
Enabling means protecting someone from the consequences of their addiction, like covering for them, paying their debts, or making excuses. It usually comes from love, but it can keep the cycle going. Counseling helps you replace enabling with loving boundaries that point toward real help.
Yes. What you share in counseling stays private and confidential. We know talking about drinking or drug use can feel risky, so our goal is a safe space where you can be honest without fear of judgment.
Relapse is common in recovery, and it doesn’t erase your progress. What matters most is what you do next. Counseling helps you understand what led to the relapse, adjust your plan, and get back on track quickly, with grace instead of shame.
Yes. We offer online sessions by secure video, so you can meet privately from home. Online counseling works well if you live outside Columbia, have a busy schedule, or would feel more comfortable talking from your own space.
When you search for an addiction counselor near me, you’ll find both licensed addiction counselors (called LACs in South Carolina) and faith-based counselors. Glory Deliverance offers biblical counseling, not licensed addiction treatment. Many people combine both, so ask any provider about their training and approach.
Scripture speaks often about freedom from things that control us. Paul wrote, “I will not be brought under the power of any” (1 Corinthians 6:12). Galatians 5:1 calls believers to “stand fast” in the liberty Christ gives. And 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises God will “make a way to escape.”
